Fighting with procrastination
Why did I choose procrastination for todays topic? It is a little sneaky monster I am (or maybe we all are) fighting with. With the blog writing I have managed to be surprisingly consistent, I wrote a post on every Sunday or latest on Monday. Not always at the same time, but it was done. Except for the last week. Since the sequence broke, I lost the motivation to pick up the line again. The past week I just finished a book called The power of 1% by Luca Mazzucchelli (see more about this book in the Book club). It made me realize, that habits formed in a good way can help us to beat the beast of procrastination. My main problem was, that the blog writing did not become a habit. I have to find a time, place or activity to make it work. By finding the time, I could set a timer for every Sunday for 50 minutes of writing. By finding a place, I could say, that every time, when I sit in a particular café, the library, or a specific place in my house, I write the blog, regardless what time it is. As a third method, I could connect is to another activity, for example to write after I am ready with my workout. According to my previous experiences, a combination of these methods leads to success. The time doesn’t mean always certain hours for me, but maybe only a daily frame. The place in this case doesn’t mean a certain phisycal space, rather that I write on my computer instead of my notebook. Currently the third ( and for me actually the strongest) part is missing, this writing is not linked consciously to any of my other activities. It is one of my “homeworks” for next week, I shall think about it and find a really good spot for writing, so I can beat procrastination again and again. This beast always comes back and you can’t do any better, than to continue fighting!
